Experienced tarot reader for over 30 years. I have always used the Rider-Waite cards and as Wikipedia tells us "While the images are deceptively simple, almost child-like, the details and backgrounds hold a wealth of symbolism."

I have been written about in several papers for my abilities, interviewed on T.V. and attended many psychic fairs as a featured reader.

I begin my reading with the Doreen Virtue Goddess Guidance Oracle Cards, to find which Goddess is influencing your reading and whom is with you at this time."The goddesses are angelic, powerful, loving beings who want to help you with every part of your life." 44 oracle cards show cross-cultural goddesses, each to help you giving you a specific message to improve your "life, health, relationships, finances, career, and spiritual path." some of the Goddess are Kuan Yin, Laksmi, Brigit, Isis, and Athena, as well as goddesses from Celtic, Mayan, Egyptian, Greek, Tibetan, Buddhist, and other traditions.

The Symbolon Tarot deck which helps to recreate memories from past lives. These beautiful cards show images from European myths and history, and on each corner of the card are astrological symbols. While designed for psychological or memory work, they are also used as a divination tool. I lay these cards over the spread, to gain additional information on the reading or to reinforce the cards.

FEEDBACK FROM A CLIENT from my other online store from artfire
" I want to thank you so much you are truly gifted! My experience was wonderful, I am grateful for your insight, you took the time to answer and to go threw thoroughly all of my questions. You were charming and compassionate to my feelings.

I have had many readings on the phone and it seemed that I was always being charged more and more, because so many are by the minute, I choose your reading because I knew I would only pay US $25.00 and because of the amount of experience you have. You took over an hour and never once said "Time is up!"

I highly recommend you to others who are searching for answers in their struggles.

P.S. I liked the fact that I had the option to call you or have you call me. Thanks again. "

should we fear the Devil card? YES

Devil card often a WARNING
THAT EVIL INFLUENCES ARE PRESENT

This is the devil card created in the Rider-Waite-Smith deck. When we look at the image it certainly looks menacing, and downright evil, it is no wonder that when it shows up in a reading it gives at a minimum, pause to the quadrant and at its worse it provokes dread and fear. There are many ,if not most, web sites, that say that the devil is not meant to portend evil, Satan or the Devil. Any evil or demonic aspect is down played. This card is said to be an " an excellent indicator for success in business and career." I ask "Do we not do a disservice when we completely ignore the obvious symbolic meaning of this card, namely that of the devil, which symbolizes the devil and evil? I think we do.

Why bother to add such a card with such symbolism if that meaning is to be ignored? Let us look at some of the images created in this card. From the research we can see that it was created to mean EVIL , from the devil.

1.The card is the fifteenth trump or major Arcana 15 reduces to 6 in numerology, a number often associated with evil as in the biblical reference in Revelation to the number of the beast 666. Yet the number 6 on its own is used as the number of a man two arms, legs and one head one body ) adding to 6.

2. He sits above two naked human demons—one male, one female, who are chained to his seat. Note that they both have horns are their head and a tail, both common symbols for demons, the Devil and evil.

2.The image of the Devil in this card is derived in part from Eliphas Levis famous illustration Baphomet in his Dogme et Rituel de la Haute Magie (1855) as seen below.("Dogmas and Rituals of High Magic"), in which he included an image he had drawn himself which he described as Baphomet and "The Sabbatic Goat",the best-known representation of Baphomet. This "demon" seems to be a purely imaged deity however ,its creation in its symbolic form, was to represent an evil nature.

3. The devil card of the Rider deck has an upside down pentacle, while the drawing of Levi does not. The history of the meaning of the pentacle and pentagram is old. Rider took his imagery even one step further by adding the upside down pentacle. An image used by Satanists.

Upside down pentacle as seen in the devil card is used in the Tarot,
The upright pentacle has been a Wiccan symbol for quite sometime, and it does have a distinctly different meaning when it is upright. Think of the symbolism of the cross, does it not have a different, perverted meaning when it is upside down? The points on the pentacle are associated with the five elements as seen here

and is not an evil symbol what so ever.

The imagery of the inverted pentacle with Baphomet was deliberately used to denote evil, satin and the devil. The combination of the upside down pentagram and Baphomet has become the official symbol of the Church of Satan. Inside the pentacle is the image of a goat, its horns in the upper two points, its ears filling the two bottom points , and its mouth in the last.

4.According to Waite, the Devil is standing on an altar.Clearly this is in reference to worshiping the devil, satanism and a reverence for evil.
DEVIL CARD STANDS FOR EVIL INFLUENCE
The Tarot of deck of Rider-Waite is filled with symbols, this we know, yet why are we ignoring or downplaying the imagery and obvious symbolic meaning or the cards that frighten us? We can not if we wish to truly read effectively. It is a matter of careful interpretation however , in relation to the other cards in the spread, the question asked and your own psychic read on the card.

Should we fear it when we see it in our spread? Yes. Remember a reading has the added benefit of giving warning and this is often what the card can mean. Perhaps , as when the card is in the 8th position of the Celtic spread, that of what is influencing the situation, it may mean that someone has malevolent feelings and intent for the quadrant. At times it can mean that someone is participating in black magic on you either directly or in the ethereal plane.

DEVIL CARD IN A LOVE SPREAD
When the question is about a love relationship and this card comes up, it can mean that the union is based on "unholy" alliances or on sex , that the love has a dark nature and is not beneficial to either party. This is seen in the couple , naked, noting a sexual element , they are chained to the devil , unable to get free. Often when there is an abusive relationship, where one party finds it difficult to leave, the devil card will show up.

DEVIL CARD IN OUTCOME POSITION
Should be considered a warning of things to come. Remember with a reading, equipped with this knowledge, one can change this possible outcome. Depending on the question it can denote a person. If the question is about a situation, the result will not be favorable for your client. It is your job to continue with the reading and find a solution and equip them with a strategy to AVOID this outcome. DO NOT LEAVE THEM without a plan that they can embrace confidently to change the path they are on.
SUMMARY read responsibly!
To summarize, there is good and bad in the world, this is a fact. To do a life reading for someone and deliberately negate the cards that are frightening or not nice, is foolish at best. their is a movement with many readers right now, to insist that the devil and death card are not in way associated with actual death, illness or evil, when in fact, sometimes, they are.
These cards were created for these unpleasant yet real aspects of life.

Waite, Smith and Levi in the Rider-Waite Deck

Waite and Smith

I have always thought the images were simple, even child-like,yet I have found a wealth of symbolism in background, as will you when you look closely at each card.

"Waite had the Christian imagery of older tarot decks' cards toned down—the "Pope" card became the "Hierophant", the "Papess" became the "High Priestess". The Minor Arcana are also, as in the earlier Sola Busca Tarot, fully illustrated with designs created by Smith." (wikipedia) I have used them because they are tradiona (cards published 1909) in many aspects and the imaginary has always been very effective and accurate for me. I have stayed away from decks with dragons, or fairies for hard core psychic readings. The symbols, influenced by the 19th century magician and occultist Eliphas Levi.

I myself don't care for Levi for he turned perverted and went into the dark. He used Tarot cards in his magical system, and as a result many magicians use them as well. Levi had a deep impact on the magic of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and later on the ex-Golden Dawn member Aleister Crowley.(another whom has given Wicca, tarot reading a bad name.

It is interesting to note however that he is attributed to declaring that a pentagram or five-pointed star with one point down and two points up represents "bad", while a pentagram with one point up and two points down is "good". It was largely through the occultists inspired by him that Lévi is remembered as one of the key founders of the twentieth century revival of magic, many who are practicing black magic.

Please be aware of the up side down star , it is important that you use it upright and beware of those who revert it, it is meant to mean evil. Here is the star that was designed by Levi

Eliphas Levi's Tetragrammaton pentagram,

which he considered to be a symbol

of the microcosm, or human being

As seen in these two cards, both 10's, the one on the right the 10 of swords can be understood by even a child, backstabbing, not a 'GOOD' card, while the other , the 10 of cups (love) is clearly a HAPPY card, and in fact it is, a pleasant marriage, with the possibility of children and a golden future. There are more complex meanings, of coarse, which mostly depend on the placement of the cards, but the Rider-Waite decks imagery is archetypical.

The card of the 'Fool' from the Rider Waite Deck. Its meaning.

Its Meaning in a reading

Often times when the fool card comes up in a reading one is filled with a sense of shame, for who wants to be associated with being foolish? As with all the cards, one needs to look closely at the imagery. Also remember the days of the Kings court, where it was the fool who entertained the court, who advised and revealed his wisdom through sarcasm and wit.

When this card turns up it often times, depending on its location and the question asked, is a warning. The fool looks up at the blue sky, he breaths in the fresh air and is enjoying himself, he is optimistic about his journey ( As indicted by the familiar hobo pack of taking a trip on his shoulder) yet he does not look down at his dog barking franticly at him. What is the dog trying to do? Trying to tell him? The dog is attempting to get his masters attention. The fool is in a dreamlike state, daydreaming about his new future, how much better things will be .

The fool does not see, however, that he is about to walk off the edge of the cliff before him, to his peril. This is our warning. Depending on the question, and the cards location, the person receiving the reading is being warned, to keep there eyes open before embarking on their new journey or relationship. It is very important to have an optimistic approach in your endeavors, but also be aware of what could go wrong. Listen to your gut reaction and intuition. Keep your nose to the grindstone. Look at the possible pitfalls that lie before you. If you are aware of them, it is more likely that you will not fall victim to them.

If the fool listens to his friend the dog ( the reader should advise that he/she solicit the opinion of their friends and consider their input) , he would look and see the cliff he is about to approach. He would take measures not to fall in. He would take an different route, look for a bridge. It does not necessarily prevent him from his journey. One should not give up just because they face an obstacle. Find the solution. One can make the choice to climb down the cliff and then back up again. If in a reading one is asking about a new relationship, let them know it will be faced with possible ups and downs and certain complicatedness.

If the card is revered, then the fool is looking to the ground, is aware of the obstacles in front of him, has his eyes wide open, is considering the advice of his friends. In this sense it is a favorable card for the person receiving the reading.
